The Montpelier Million
In a display of determination and community spirit, students at Montpelier High School have completed a charity challenge walking a million steps to raise funds for World Central Kitchen.
Staff and students participated in a charity challenge fundraising for World Central Kitchen that saw the whole school collectively completing 1 million steps, with the individual aim to complete as many steps as they can in 55 minutes so that across the school all participants will have collectively walked over a million steps. Students asked friends and family to sponsor them for each circuit they completed during this ambitious challenge taking place during the week commencing Monday 9th December.
This challenge was been launched by Steph Ward, Teacher of Sport and year 7 tutor.
She said “This will be incredible experience where not only will students raise money for an amazing charity, but also participate in something to foster teamworking among students and create a sense of community.
“We feel it is important that our students understand what charities like World Central Kitchen do. It is a chance to do something to help others, to not give up on something that is difficult and to donate their time in doing something selfless and to improve the lives of others.”
A charity fundraiser like this celebrates our core school values of curiosity, responsibility, resilience and respect”
The funds raised will be donated to World Central Kitchen. Headteacher Vanetta (Ben) Spence expressed her pride in the students, stating, “This initiative showcases the compassion and dedication of our students – really demonstrating their commitment to being kind, working hard and having courage. They have truly gone above and beyond to make a positive impact in our community.”
We are deeply grateful to Morales Cafe, Boston Tea Party, Brew Bristol, Pizzucci, One B coffee house Subway, Reel Soul, Future Leap, and Costa Coffee for their generosity in giving us some edible prizes such as hot chocolate and cakes to support our students in the challenge.
Message from Mrs Ward
“We have absolutely smashed it, achieving well over 1 million steps. (Final numbers to be calculated). The pupils have blown me away with their enthusiasm, determination, and competitive spirit, all in reaching the collective target of 1 million steps and raising money for World Central Kitchen. The numbers achieved by some year groups and particular individuals has been
astonishing, so well done to everyone. A massive thank you also to Mrs Davies who has baked over 800 cookies to reward all the steppers after their hard session of walking up and down, I know that this has been greatly appreciated.
“Please could I now ask all sponsorship money to be brought in on Monday. Even if you don't have a sponsor then any contribution to this amazing charity would be greatly appreciated. We have set up a row of boxes at the main reception each with the year group on for anyone who has cash sponsorships. If you would like to, please find your name on the list and write the amount you have
raised. Students can simply come along and drop off whatever cash they may have collected into their year group box (that way we can track which year group has raised the most money) Students who would like to pay via ParentPay can do so.
“Parent Pay will be live from 11.12.24 - Please log into ParentPay and search for ‘2024 Montpelier Million’ and select year group. Donations can be anything from £1 to £100.
“Thank you again for being so fantastic and raising money for an amazing cause.”
